Beware of Cut-Rate LASIK

Advertisements for $499*per eye LASIK can be found in the Sunday coupon section of our newspapers. There are billboards advertising LASIK for $1*! What does that little asterisk mean?? LASIK technology is expensive, therefore, they have to be cutting corners somewhere! We promise never to compromise the quality of your LASIK.

When comparing prices there are some important questions to ask:

  1. TECHNOLOGY: Ask about the brand of laser they are using. Did they buy it used? Is it a stationary or mobile laser? Does the laser have a tracking system, what kind is it? Can it treat all prescriptions?
Dr. Reinstein bought the most expensive highest laser available new in 2001. Our laser is permanently housed in a state licensed surgery center. Learn more about our laser technology.
  2. SURGEON EXPERIENCE and OUTCOMES: How many years has the surgeon been practicing ophthalmology? Do they live in Tulsa or another area code, therefore not available after-hours/weekends? Did the surgeon train in Canada with the pioneers of LASIK? Has the surgeon been performing LASIK since available in the US in 1996? What are the surgeon's specific outcome percentages? Don't let them give you the FDA clinical outcomes; you want to know about the surgeon's accuracy and enhancement rate.
Dr. Reinstein has been practicing ophthalmology in Tulsa for over 30 years and his. He trained with the Canadian pioneers of LASIK. We are proud of our outcomes. Our enhancement rate for myopia -1.00 to -6.00 is 7%.
  3. PRICE: What all is included? It is a good idea to ask them what is NOT included. What about the cost of enhancements and the pre and post care? How long and how many visit are in the post op period? What does it take to qualify for the low price? How many patients that go there qualify for the advertised price? Do you have to pay a "deposit" before you actually see the doctor? See this ABC action news story for an undercover investigation of cut-rate LASIK. Dr. Reinstein's price for LASIK includes ALL the pre-procedure testing and post-op exams (6 or more) for 12 months from the date of the procedure. For our nearsighted patients, any necessary enhancement as well as the pre-procedure and 12 months of follow up are at no cost to you.
